Help in Charleston

hey everyone,

I am coming down from clemson to charleston in two weeks and needed some help. Does anyone know of any fishing charters done from kayaks?

Also I like to fly fish alot and have heard that you can stand in native kayaks. (and there is a dealer in Charleston)Does anyone own one and can tell me how they like it? Can you really stand comfortably in one? Are they heavy? Can you take one in the Ocean? Please help.

Finally, can anyone please help me find locations to launch a kayak near charleston that might be near some areas that might have some reds?

I really appreciate any help yall can give.

Thanks,
Sean

I have a Native and love mine. 12’,light, and can cruise through very shallow water. I can stand to throw a fly line pretty easily(still have to be careful). I found I can throw a small cast net but not a large one from the boat. I have different kayak for ocean but I imagine on calm days it wouldn’t be a problem.

Sean,
As far as I know, no one runs kayak guides for fishing right now. There was a company called paddle fish that was around a few summers ago, not sure if they are still here or not. If you want to check out the native ultimate 12 0r 14.5, we do rent these boats out at Time Out Sport and Ski in Mt. Pleasant (843 388-6266). I’m sure some of these guys on this forum wouldn’t mind taking you out.

Good Luck,
DD

Mike Benson at the Charleston Angler does guided trips and fly fishes as well. You can reach him by contacting the Charleston Angler Mount Pleasant store. He posts on here when he can but he doesn’t have internet in the new place he just moved into yet. If you do catch him here, he goes by Mad Mike.

Thats why they call it fishing, not catching
