Help Please

I am coming down to Charleston this weekend with my boat to do a little inshore fishing. I have a 14 year old son that loves fishing but very, VERY rarely do we get to go saltwater. He asked for a trip to go inshore for his birthday, yet I dont have a clue where to take him down there or what to use. Not asking for a honey hole. Just some help to give him a great day. I have to stay inshore as my boat is only a 18ft jon boat with a 40 yamaha. ANY help would be appreciated. Thanks

Where are you staying in the area and I will try to point you in an area close. Good time of the year for a trip.

staying at my dads in Ridgeville. But I can go wherever would be best. My boat has a chart plotter and nab on it so I can find my way back. I grew up in goose creek but my dad wasn’t into fishing. But my son loves it and I can think of a lot worse things for a 14 yr old boy to do.

Hawkeye I’ am fishing the Wando til Sunday with my Dad. We are putting in at Remleys. Shoot me a PM and I will tell you what I know. I only get to fish inshore a few times per year so my knowledge is limited. We saw more fish today than we caught which were too small to keep

Thanks for all the help I really appreciate it I think we are going to put in at Remleys Point and fish the piers of the bridge, drum island, and back up the wand. Unless someone has a better suggestion. I just have to watch the waves being in a jon boat. I figure that far in shouldn’t be too bad hopefully:smiley:

Can You fish around Patriots point? How far out do you have to stay?

This is what this website is all about, good people being good people. Gives me a little faith in humanity. Good luck this weekend arhawkeye, hope you guys limit out.

Yes, just use common sense. Don’t block the entrance/exit path for the ferry to the fort and you’ll be fine.

I’ve been hitting the jetties and the grillage alot lately with good luck. Natural bait of all types(live and dead) has been producing well. The forecast is pretty calm on the water this weekend and in an 18ft jon you can hit the jetties if you’d like. I’ll be out there Saturday morning and then headed offshore a little later. I’ll have a friend and his wife from out of town with me and they want to get on the open ocean. Seas are showing 1ft @ 11sec at the jetties.

If you don’t want to spend time catching bait just pick up some shrimp and squid.

Just wanted to say thank you for all the help. We hit Remleys about 7:10 straight in Wando past the bridge. Hooked up on 2 redfish and about 10 sheeps, then to the tressil by drum island, the the Cooper. All total he had a great time and we had a great dinner!! Will load pics later.

Sneak boat gave you some very good information. Good luck out there. If you’re looking for non stop action troll some yozuri crystal minnows in the areas he highlighted for you. Trout, bluefish and Spanish love those things.
