I recently qualified to represent the USA in the Hobie Fishing Worlds in China in November.
http://hobiefishingworlds.com/
Now with just a little over 2 months to plan, I’m realizing there just is’nt that much info online. I’m trying to gain as much knowledge as I can on the area (Shang Lake in Changshu China) as well as the three species I’ll be targeting
-Yellow Cheek Carp
-Topmouth Culter
-Chinese Perch
If anyone on the forum has any info please share or PM me – It would be greatly appreciated!
Also- I WTB or borrow a hardcase travel rod tube that can extend to allow 7’6" rods (6-7 rods) and a hardcase (like Pelican) to transport 6-7 reels (spinning and casting). Let me know if you have anything for sale.
Thanks in advance

I would start with youtube!
First, Most, Biggest
There were a couple of Pelican cases on Craigslist yesterday
it is easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission

Best thing for a travel rod tube is PVC. Cheap and effective. Glue a cap on one end and a screw out plug on the other.
I would PM Cortland this site. He has traveled to that part of the world fishing. Maybe not China, but Malaysia, or thereabouts! If memory serves me, he had some tackle turn up missing when he got there!
You may have seen these already, but maybe they will help a little:
Yellow cheek carp: https://youtu.be/GREIFq-NGH8
Topmouth Cutler: http://fourseasonsangling.blogspot.com/2009/10/top-mouth-culter-in-taiwan.html
Chinese perch: http://www.fishbase.org/summary/28054
If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.
Thanks for the replies!
If you don’t have a Chinese Visa you should start the process now, may take some time.
Also, carry plenty of Imodium for the trip. I carry way more than needed for each trip, can be amazing how much/often you need the stuff. Not having it can ruin the tournament in many ways!
