help with a tld 15

howdy yall! I just received a shimano tld 15 for christmas! I am going it to put it on a 12ft. penn prevail for my surf casting setup. I put it on a 10ft. surf rod and let me tell you, thing casts like a dream!!! However my issue was the little turny screw thing where the lever drag adjustment bar is placed. I see whenever i turn it it effects the max drag on the reel. What should I have it set to? I was a little confused and the more i turn it, the lever is almost impossible to push all the way up. If i screw it down, the reel is normal again but I was just wondering and help would be appreciated. also i am not talking about the lever drag itself, but the little cupish thing it is attatched with that you turn to effect the friction?

That is the drag preset adjustment. You usually adjust it to the desired strike tension, (middle detent on the lever). Always have the lever all the way back when you adjust it. Don’t try to turn it when the drag lever is pushed forward. You also want to store it with the tension released.

Like mentioned already be sure not to adjust your drag preset knob before pulling the lever back into free spool…otherwise you will probably “lock up” the lever drag on it. If this does happen, swing by the shop when you have a quick minute and I can show you how to quickly fix that issue. Enjoy that reel, awesome reel for the $$$!
