I need ideas on how to modify or change the door on my console that covers the radio and storage. If I have the motor in gear past idle I can’t open the door because it comes Out too far and hits the throttle lever. I’ve thought of adding a hinge in the middle but I would lose some height (when I cut it) on the door causing it to not lock correctly at the bottom, and it would not be as waterproof. I’m open to suggestions…but don’t wanna spend tons of money as its not THAT big of a deal…just annoying.

The hole is just rounded at the corners and slightly smaller than the door.
Thanks!
I have the same problem on my Key West… It can be annoying sometimes!!

do away with the door, put a solid panel in place of the door, and flush mount the electronics

I’d agree with Chris. Flush mounting the would be effective if your electronics are marine grade and water resistant. If you’re worried about theft or wear and tear while sitting on the trailer in the sun, put a sliding, lockable piece of plastic in front of it during storage. Just take the plastic out when in use. It’ll be as though you have no door on it and I don’t know about you, but I leave my console door up unless I’m running through wet nasty seas or need to see the compass on top of the console. Stuff that has to be dry ( cell phones, wallets, etc) go in a dry box in the console compartment.
I thought anout that too chris…My electronics are marine grade, but that space is typically used for storage for small items, as I don’t have a ton of easily accessible storage on the boat. It works great to put wallet, phone, keys, etc…in. And if I leave it open and hit choppy waves, things tend to bounce out.
Rap…I though about making the door a sliding piece of plexiglass and have it lock at the top and slide up in a set of rails…but I have no idea where to find such rails to make the frame to slide the plexiglass into. I also am slightly concerned with theft as my neighborhood tends to be hit regularly by pesky kids stealing anything they can access easily, and my boat is left out in my driveway most weekends.
I leave mine open as well. I took a thin piece of starboard and made a lip so that things will not fly out. I had a radio in the bottom with a piece of starboard on top of it…since I took the radio out, it makes a nice shelf (did the same with the thin piece of starboard for a lip).
If at first you don’t succeed, drink another beer!!!
