HELP WITH ELECTRONICS

I have a 2011 Sea Hunt 232 Ultra, and I have a Garmin 4212 system, stereo with 4 speakers, and the normal gages on the dash. Today, while out on the water, the all electronics shut off and would not come back on. The only thing working were the Yamaha gages.

The last time I was out the electronics flickered off twice, and both times I was able to turn the GPS and radio back on. Today, NADA, ZIP, ZILCH, NOTHING.

I do not know a lot about electronics, so any help and/or recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

check the relay from the battery

could it possibly be the circuit breaker coming directly off the battery switch? It is corroded

Sounds like a power supply problem to the bus bar/fuse block.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

It could easily be any corroded or loose connection in the curcuit. I’d start at the terminal at the battery, and check it and every junction from there to the terminal block/strip where power breaks out for the individual components mentioned above. My guess is that you’ll find a bad, corroded, or loose terminal/connection or fuse somewhere. Sometimes, a fuse can look fine, BTW, and have enough corrosion on it, or in the socket, to keep it from working properly. Actually, the last time I had a problem like that, it was a dirt-dobber nest. I wasted a lot of time by thinking I had ruled it out by cleaning the affected component really well. Even cleaning the contacts really well won’t do the trick sometimes, so if you find some fuse, switch, or terminal crudded up, you might want to just replace it so you can rule it completely out and not waste time thinking the problem is something else. It’s not a bad idea to replace such components periodically in the marine environment, anyway.

In other words, Nut3, check all the common power terminals, fuses, switches, and breakers, first. It could be any one from the common power bus for the affected units on back. Also, check the common ground terminal for the affected electronics. It sounds like it’s going to be something very simple.

It’s almost surely as easy as changing a fuse or resetting a circuit breaker when all systems go completely dead like that. If that’s not it, or if you fix that issue & it still is dead, then there’s a bad ground wire or shorted power wire in the main power/ground wiring from your battery to your console

Thanks to all for the help!!!

We were able to change out the circuit breaker connected to the battery cables this morning, and they all work now. Easy fix that cost $3.89! WOOHOO!! Now, on to the other problems I’m having, which I was hoping would be fixed with the circuit breaker. My wash down does not power on any more. The light on the accessories panel lights up, and the fuses appear to be fine. Also, my Lenco trim tabs do not work properly anymore. They constantly cut themselves off and on randomly throughout the day. I can hear the trim tabs making noise like they are moving when you power them down. I don’t really know where to start with them to try and fix them. Suggestions?

Same process of elimination as above on the wash down, but it might just be a bad pump. I’d check the power on the pump side with a multimeter first. If you have voltage there, it’s a bad pump. If not, repeat the process above. If you have the same tabs that I have on my creek boats, they are actuated by relays. The relays may be going on you. I’d start that one by pulling the panel and checking the relays out and the switches that serve them. There could also be a short on the leads that trip one of the relays or a bad switch. My guess would be a bad relay on that one, though.

I would have to have Shaquille O’neal arms to get under the transom to check the pump. Any suggestions??
