Help with Fish ID?

Can anyone help to let me know what kind of fish this is? I haven’t seen one in a good number of years!

Went out w Marsh, Otter, and John (aka FNG) yesterday. Ended up catching this beast… 110 lbs gutted… estimating 120 +/- in about 200’ of h2o. Ended the day with this, 60lb Hoo, snake king (12 lbs), and small phin (10 lbs). Out @ 140 degrees from 150’ to 250’. Caught this in 200’.

Kudos to FNG for hanging in there to catch the toona and getting the hoo too! FNG luck I guess…Good times were had! Thanks Marsha!

Once Boz sends me a few other of the pics, I’ll down load them… I’m not to savvy in the ways of using these computers and posting pics.

Not a daymaker but a decade maker. Even when we caught them 11 years ago, they were not usually that big. Nice fish

That’s an Allison. Did you really catch it outta of SC?

Yup! That’s why I was sarcastically asking for an ID… haven’t seen them in a long while! I was shocked when I saw it come up.

Sounds like it was lost. Hopefully a bunch more will get lost.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

What did y’all think y’all had hooked while fighting it? Bet that was big surprise when y’all could see what it was. Congrats.

Allison - YFT they are the same critter, no difference in DNA. The long anal & dorsal happen with maturity. Back when we had a dependable YFT run, we saw the long yellow dorsal & anal on fish over 60#

Glad to see one of those this side of the stream here, hope hid buddies will follow. I heard those “more experienced” guys saying the winter like thing we had in January might bring them back. If it’s real thanks for posting. lol

@bootleg, I saw the initial bite seeing only the tail fin. My first thought was a big azz hoo. Then as the fight went on, we thought billfish. When it came up, tail wrapped and those georgous yellow fins laid out, I was shocked! I think I probably screemed like a little school girl!

@hard east… I hope those “more experienced” guys are right… its been waaaaay too long! Btw, it was 100% real!

Skipjack. They aren’t worth eating. Bring him to my house iced down and bled well and I will dispose of him for you in my crab traps.

And to think I drove 13 hrs to catch one like that. That is one heck of a fish!

Sounds like it was lost. Hopefully a bunch more will get lost.
