That happens every time someone posts where they’ve been fishing…

If you value your fishing time in “your spots” keep those honeyholes to yourself and your fishing buddies.

We got 27 last night…about half on the “overfished” spot. I will have to admit the harbor / Cooper were loaded with more gigging boats than I have ever seen in one night.

Ricky…Do you really think nobody can see you gigging your “secret” spots with 1,000,000 candlepower.

I am considering moving from LED lights to generator and 500w blowtorches. What is the general opinion on the Honda 2000w generators? Do they give enough power.

I saw that Sells uses a 3000w and I like the option to add a 4th light and run the battery charger / trolling motor. However, the 3000w generators are much bigger and heavier.

Will the 2000w work well or do think I will ‘wish’ I had gotten a bigger generator? I would welcome any opinions you guys have, especially those running generators.

Thanks in advance.

I run a 1500 with just two lights and it works fine. my buddy runs 4 with his 2000 and the visibility is not that much more. I would be interested in your leds!

Last season I had 1000w generator and ran 4 200w lights. Worked just fine, but we only lit up on side of the boat at a time. This season I upgraded to a 4000w (I needed a bigger generator for another project I was working on at the time) and the 4k has turned into my gigging generator since. With it I run 6 500w lights and its a ton of light. You probably don’t need anywhere close to that. I’ll be the first to say it’s overkill, but I plan on using this setup for bow fishing too… as soon add I find time.

If i were buying for gigging only, I would buy that 2000w and that should be ample light. 2 500watts on the sides and 2 250 watts up front.

I like the shop lights because they’re cheap and simple to replace. Two 500watt lights from harbor freight will run you about $30.

I just need to find where 23Sailfish is and get within a nautical mile of him. I am sure I could use the light coming off of his boat to gig!

I also subscribe to the guy philosophy of “if some is good - then more must be better!”

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated.

Hmm… hesitate to say it, but, there are a few places I’d be slow to eat from. Cooper River near Shipyard Creek might be one of them. Especially with all the rain we’ve been having. The McAlloy SuperFund site is on Shipyard Creek. The ‘cleanup’ of that site consists primarily of a clay cap across the top with a storm water run off plan. Under that cap is some nasty stuff. I don’t have any data on current levels in the area. 'May be fine. And, there is a ton of flow rolling through there. So, there may not be anything to worry about. But, with all the beautiful water around Charleston, I, personally, would pull my food out of a different spot.

Been gigging more years than I care to think of with coleman lanterns, and 12v lights. Always end up knocking some in the water, has anyone ever had any lights go over while using a generator in an aluminum boat? Always think about getting a honda generator but was a little scared of loose juice in the aluminum boat. Anyone ever had any shocking experiences with generators in aluminum boats?
