Help with flounder gigging

I’ve got a 15ft Jon boat that i hunt out of and do alot of catfish gigging out on the lake but wanted some insight on flounder gigging. What kind of set up do other people use on there boats? Ive got a small generator I could use for power for the lights or is that to loud? What type of lights do people use? Do yall push pole around or use a trolling motor im not to sure how the fish react to it? I live relatively close to Bushy Park landing, anyone ever have any luck out that way? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Not looking for any honey holes or anything just a noobie looking for some insight. Thanks!

Im new as all get out too. had a buddy teach me a few things and i have been out a few nights. there are some reds in BP but if u dont get the tide right or weather its muddy as shi*. I wanna go out but noone ever wants to go with me. shoot me a PM with ur number and Ill show ya what I know which sure aint a ton. Got 4 flounder 3 red and a stingray in the last week though

I went last weekend with a friend on his boat. We used a single underwater light hooked to the battery and looked for sandbars. If you are near mud you can’t see. Flounder seem to like the sand. We saw 4 and stuck 2.

I think we should have a gigging party and talk setups haha

If you want to use a generator you can except around PAwleys its illegal. To use a generator. Take shop lights the cheap metal housing kind and put what ever high output bulbs you have. I guess with a generator its the more the better.

I personally use 4 flouderpro 3-sided LEDs. They put out 2000 lumens each and draw 7 amps all together. I gig off kayak and look for sandbars as the other person said. I just took one of my lights off and made a wading light. Fun times!

With using like the ship lights about how many hours the battery will last? What’s the best priced lights that yall use that work good?

For the money… I would prob buy the AquaStar. Its like 40 dollars. You cant take it out the water though and its bright! It burns some amps though (maybe 7 amps a hr) but can run for a entire gigging trip off one deep cycle.

My lights are Flounderpro3 3-sides. they cost 100.00 they pull 1.9 amps and put out 2000 lumens. Great light as well. They can be taken in and out of the water with out fear of blowing abulb. I run for for a total amp of 8 amps or so. I use a 100 amp hr battery so I can run the lights for 12.5 hours off one battery.

a 3000 watt Kawasaki gene. 4 five hundred watt halogen shop lights, a 12 volt power converter run off the gene to power the trolling motor and keep the battery topped off. I can see down 6’ and can cover 5-10 miles on a tide.

Great place to flounder gig is the shore of Drum Island on the Cooper River side, Very clear water and their is easy access to 40 foot plus water so the species are diverse. I’ve gigged 4 flounder last year there, haven’t been this year I’ve seen lots of redfish around Drum island too at night. You might want to consider using a pole to guide yourself along. I’ve never done catfish gigging, do you go after Flathead ?

Ahhh paying it forward, I’ve had quite a few people on here put me on a fish.

Like anywhere in the Cooper / Wando / ICW is a secret. Guess what…wait one tide cycle and the fish are back. I seem to hit flounder in all the same places every time.

Holy Moly, I can just taste those fillets!

I use a Honda Gen 2000 watt. Bought 500 watt work lights and screwed inch dow rods on them to place in my rod holders. Works pretty decent.

Where is town creek?

Town creek is another name for the Cooper River between Drum Island and DT chs…if I remember correctly. Never had much luck there, but it’s always been fairly sheltered from the wind.

There’s a fine line between fishing and sitting in the boat like an idiot

Drum Island is the most over gigged bank in Chucktown…
