The wife and I are planning a trip to the keys area of Florida. I like fishing alot and the wife like bird watching/photograghy. Maybe a bit of snorkeling or such. We are go and do kind of people. We want places to stay that are clean, and simple. Money is not a huge deal but like everyone cost effective is nice.
What time of year?
What areas?
Guides?
Places to stay?
General info type thing as well.
spring time because its bloody hot in the summer! marathon has a little area called key colony beach that has tons of rental houses that u can spend from 900 a week to 4000 a week and its close to a grocery store and some good restaurants. as far as guides u cant beat the array of guides they have at Bud and Mary’s marina just up the road in islamorada 30 minutes but there are plenty around marathon. i took my parents down there a couple summers ago and i had a blast but they on the other hand didnt, mainly bc the weather was bad when we were there and the keys are so nice for fishing which is why i wanted to go and thats all i did, they would have rather stayed in Key West and your wife may also prefer that bc the shopping and other such tourist activities are there in great supply. and there is plenty fishin to be had in KW also. but if u want to be away from all the hustle and bustle of KW Marathon is great spot and KW is only 45 minutes away depending on traffic like on a friday night/afternoon it make take hour or so!! lemme know if u have any other questions

well the first time i went down there i went with my girlfriend and her dad. he hired a guide who just wanted to catch 2 lb yellowtails all day then we talked him into trolling and we caught one dolphin. so i was like if i ever come down here again im doin it myself. so two years later i drove down and towed my 19 CC, and went out on fathers day with my dad and caught 2 nice dolphin and a wahoo, then the next day caught a couple cobia and a black grouper and almost had a sailfish on a live ballyhoo. its up to you tho… there are some really good guides down there but im a do it urselfer and would rather do the work myself and have something to show for it than pay someone and just reel the fish in which i consider to be the work and not the fun! IF u wanna do some offshore stuff call Paul Ross on the Relentless and use FLorida KEys outfitters for inshore stuff both i believe are out of Bud and Marys marina! good luck u say ur wife is into bird watching ummmm as far as i knowthe birds down there arent much different than here lol but if you get in a boat and cruise around the mangroves and look closely u will see iguanas sometimes as big as 6 feet they are pretty coll and will let u get pretty close
good lucl and have fun
