OK - the wife and I are headed to do some primitive camping on the Chatooga this weekend. I’m bringing a 4wt. Any tips/suggestions/areas to try? how about a fly shop in walhalla/seneca area.
I’ve only done this freshwater stuff once before.
Pillage and plunder with a 9wt and a fist full of clousers.
NOt exactly close but in brevard the Davidson river is good. There is a flyshop there as well as fishing grounds for you to use at a cost… You can “cheat” and use egg patterns and sna juan worms which look like little red wigglers. Drive around and look for people fishing in the streams, find an area you can get in and start fishing. Good luck
He took the bait like a jugbelly redfish on an olive and white clouser.
the delayed harvest section above the hwy 28 bridge is were you wanna be. big ugly black buggers and stoneflies will catch some great browns. 4x catches more and with a 4wt you can get away w/ a tad lighter tippet since the rod absorbs alotta shock. blue wing olive hatch might bring em up but the bigger offering usually entice the pigs. a soft hackle (or tiny nymph) dropper will get you in business behind a small dry. i would start with a emerger fly( or anything that you can track just below the surface film) and a dropper so small you’ll create new cuss words moving upstream and work back down with the down and dirty wooly buggers.its a pretty good trail (DH sec) that you can spot the best fish from above. `also the west fork is beautiful. lemme know, im headed up after a belly full of turkey! good luck
