Help with Military History/Research

I am working on putting together some information regarding my biological grandfather who died flying the hump in Burma in world war 2. Not much else is know beyond that within my family. Is there a source out there for researching military history of a family member? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A few places to start:

If you are interested in hiring someone to help you compile military records this guy is pretty good http://www.goldenarrowresearch.com/

He has put together military records of my granddad and my wife’s granddad and we were very satisfied with the work.
