As you can see by the photo, my tilt/trim is in need of repair. This is on a 2003 70 Yamaha TLRB. Is this the stator? Can you replace just the rusted part or do you have to replace the entire thing? Is there an aftermarket one as the OEM Yamaha one is $$$$$$. And lastly, is this a do it yourself job? Sorry for all the questions but, I am concerned the tilt/trim will go out on me on the water one day so I would like to get it fixed.
Thanks!

There is an aftermarket,I have a 2003 60hp and replaced it for $85.No problem except that back bolt on the left, had to get creative on that one.Ended up using a phillips head screw with the same threads and a magnetic phillips head screwdriver to be able to get to it.
Wow, that’s a whole lot less than the Yamaha replacement. Do you remember where you got it?
Thanks!
I got it from a local dealer here in Florence but he has since relocated. You should be able to find one online, wish I could remember the brand for you,I installed it 3 years ago with no problems since(all saltwater).I will look this afternoon and see which one I have.
Just checked Amazon.com D, $77.00 for aftermarket trim motor.
I put an ARCO motor on my old Johnson 88spl a couple of years back. I don’t know how the yammer hammer is put together, but, the bottom face of my motor was in the fluid path… so to speak. Breaking the motor off of the trim/tilt assembly opened the the how kit and caboodle. I had to remove the entire thing to replace the motor.
That having been said. It was not a terrible job. I took the opportunity to completely flush the system and refill with new oil.
The arco motor was a direct fit. Went in just like it was supposed to and runs smooth and strong. No complaints, yet.
