help

I’ve been fishing the reefs with in about 12 miles of shore but recently bought a 26’ walkaround to go futher offshore. I’m leaving out of charleston thursday and was wandering if somebody could give me some tips on catching dolphin. I’ve read a bunch about it, but when you read everybody’s forums it a little confusing. I need help with colors and strating location. please help if you don’t feel like typing call me 803-454-0975

wow, thats really open minded and open ended on this site… I hope you get positive responses.

Right now for us we are seeing 120-180 doing well. All colors, just depends on the day. One day green anything next day all dark, black/red, black/purple. The key for us is to keep track of the 1st one and the ones there after. a pattern usually emerges quick…

mix up the top, planer, flat line, and a WTFB. the darker colors are catching bulls and wahoo so be prepared to ID and Gaff what you want to keep.

Is there anythign else you would recommend that he need to get?

thanks

600’ of anchor rode so you can anchor in deep water. Double your anchor chain as well.

25 …start a thread in the Offshore section and ask for safety recs…

YES SIR YOU TO, I WILL CALL AROUND 5:30 IN THE MORNING. THANKS
FOR CALLING ME.

a PLB and or an EPIRB, once you can afford it is a great tool to have. allows the costies to get you and your crew out to safety the fastest possible

radar, AIS, xm weather, DSC vhf coupled to GPS, life raft, are all nice but an eprirb is the best way to get rescued if you need it.

its my next purchase, several of the guys that fish with me have plb’s and they are the next best thing to an epirb. we try to have one such device for each trip. so far so good. you can also rent these devices and not have to buy them, but it takes advanced planning.

be prepared, have a plan that is discussed with the crew on what the plan is for emergencies. Have a ditch bag, it goes over with you and the crew should you have to evacuate.

Planning and dry run training are great, just remember when things go wrong on the water they go wrong FAST.

A good plan could make all the difference.
