"Chiggers are tiny, six-legged wingless organisms (larvae) that grow up to become a type of mite. Chiggers are found in tall grass and weeds. Their bite causes severe itching."

See my response to your post in the Fishing Report thread. Sorry. Welcome to the Lowcountry.

You might be a local” if you had to put Campho Phenique on the 300 red bumps on your legs after a fishing/hunting trip.

just keep scratching them Chuck…something’s bound to happen…

rubbing alcohol all over your legs, arms and neck after spending time in a common chigger infested area will save you days of itching…weather it be the flats or in the deer stand, I’ve made it a practice.

That’s just passing out on the floor drunk.

Glad to hear it keeps the chiggers away, though. I’ll tell the wife I was “hunting” late last night.

last time I had them was years ago in the boy scouts. They were all over my package and underarms. Really sucks.

I’ve always rubbed a little bleach on to get rid of them.

Three-fourths of the Earth’s surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

Turpentine on a qtip works good also. Smells better than bleach too.

Might be duck itch.

Finger nail polish on each bump will suffocate a chigger, if that’s what you have. Use whatever color you wish, I used clear, you can’t hardly see it.

I am convinced these are not chiggers. I’ve gotten a severe case before while fishing the same place I’ve fished 1000 times. 9990 times with no problems. The other times I got these bites right at the level of the water I was wading. Two neat rings of bites, one around each leg just above the knee. My father got into them standing in the water working on the floating dock. He was chest deep and had a ring of bites all the way around about mid-chest. Miserable.

I always wade in long pants because of these bugs. The Simms wading pants are great and dry very quickly. An old pair of khakis works just fine also.

I have tried everything to stop the itching. Nothing really helps completely. I have found that topical benadryl gel helps. Doesn’t cure it, but will give temporary partial relief.

Not chiggers from what I was told years back when I got them all over my legs wading, but they are periwinkle snail larve. Took quite a few months to heal up then left little scars. I tape up the cuff of pants if I go wading now.
