Help

First off let me give credit where it is due. I took my first ever kayak fishing trip recently and it wore me out for days. Fun as it was, it was a lot more work than I had anticipated. With that being said, I am looking for help with kayak friendly launch areas and any tips you guys could give to help me get in the water and out of the way faster. Don’t want to be holding up boaters or any more experienced kayakers. Thank you in advance for your help.

What area of town do you live in?

I live in Goose Creek, but don’t mind a drive. I took my first trip out of bushy park and planned it to use the ramp/dock at low tide since most boaters avoid low water there.

There are a couple good places over towards Mount Pleasant. Shem creek ramp(Coleman Blvd @ Simmons St) has a good amount of boat traffic, but if you unload fast enough you’ll be fine. Paradise Island up 17N as well as Gadsdenville Rd(Copahee Access) also up 17 are both excellent for kayakers. Paradise is best suited for kayaks. Gadsdenville can get shallow and I mean quick if you aren’t paying attention. I don’t know many places out your way as I live in Mount Pleasant.

Thanks for the info. I went a couple of weeks ago and looked at Copahee area. Looks good but sounds tricky. Rather not put myself in a bad spot intentionally. I’ll work on my unload time and see if I can just stay out of the way.

Copahee is fine, just don’t get caught out there at low tide.

I have two Kayaks on a trailer and load and unload quickly. You will be fine if you are prepared and have a plan.
Just remember you pay taxes too!

MooreFun Out!
I can explain it to you, but I can’t understand it for you!

Pitt street bridge is good at high tide. Its in Mt Pleasant, very easy to find. You have to carry your kayak down a 6 to 8 foot steep grade hill but it isn’t too bad. You can also launch at the end of station 19 on Sullivan’s island. Its a small creek that leads to the intracoastal waterway and I’ve caught some decent fish out of there. I also put in off of 216A off I26. There?s a landing right at the end of the bridge if you?re coming from Summerville toward downtown. No boat launch to worry about and you can park your vehicle there and launch into the Ashley river. I also put in at Remley’s point but not off the boat launch. If you’re standing in front of the boat launch walk to your right about a 100 yards and theirs a small trail through the grass that leads to the water. If you look at google maps there is a spot on sullivans island off of station 26. Haven?t been there but I know a guy who launches there and he goes up by the inlet and does pretty well.

Thanks for the help. Having only gone once, I am sure I will learn ways to load and unload quickly. I felt like the few boats I encountered were courteous in my first trip on the water. Just want to be able to do the same at launch.
