Just wanted to share with you guys - Henry, aka “Saltyyakker” here on the kayak forum, recently suffered a stroke. He is hospitalized at MUSC. DDOlson went down there this evening to visit, and he said he isn’t doing well…hasn’t regained consciousness since the stroke.
Please remember him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Henry was taken off of life support today.
Please continue to remember his family in your thoughts and prayers. He leaves a wife and 8 year-old daughter…
Henry was an interesting fella… I recall showing him how to rig his rod and reel for plastics and seeing him light-up when he hooked that first small red. He was excited to catch fish, no matter the size - I’ll miss that enthusiasm.

My prayers for him and his family.

Very sorry to hear that. Thoughts and prayers for him and his family.

So sad. Hate to hear of young children being left behind.
Praying for them, so tragic.

I fished with him a few times. We fished the creeks around Charleston and went sailing. He was one of the nicest guys you would ever meet. He would give you the shirt off his back. I remember we tried to go the jetties in February back in 2012. We had a real adventure. It was his second time sailing to the jetties and my first. The water was cold, around 58’. It was the firs time we met and I remember thinking here is this guy from southern Florida in shorts fishing in mid Feb. He had so much energy and enthusiasm. I don’t think I have ever seen someone so happy just to be alive. He told me about his daughter and asked me about mine. I just become a father and he explained how it would be the biggest adventure of my life. We sailed from Fort Moultire headed for the north pile of “Rocks”. We made it to the first buoy at the grill age and some jerk in motor boat came uncomfortably close and flipped him. The water was cold and I knew we only had a few minutes to get him out. Here is this man I barely knew calling for help and I was right there. He pulled himself back into his yak and was obviously cold. He thanked me with the biggest bear hug. I think at the point I had a made a friend for life. We made it back to shore and he was more concerned with ruining my fishing trip than his own comfort. We fished a few times since and shared a some laughs and more than enough beer. I only wish The Lord let him stay with us a little longer. Henry you will be missed. God bless you and your family.
