The pond was full of these fellas yesterday. Saw anything from 2-3 to probably 100 like this photo.
What is happening? Are they migrating, spawning, what?

we had a huge area of manta rays go under us at the GTH once, blacked out the sounder(they were only20-30 ft down so we could actually see them, some of them were huge)),mother nature has a way of astonishing you sometimes…
last couple sets of cage buoys, skates as far as the eye could see, yesterday.
some cobes in there as well.
dayum thats alotta rays! Looks to me like a party got busted and they are movin’ out.
I’ve looked on the net for any info. These are Golden or Cownose rays. They migrate long distances, and can be found as far south as the Caribbean and as far north as New England. They pass this area in the late spring and apparently again in the fall.

You could have saved yourself a lot of gas if you would have just taken a picture at the Wappoo boat ramp today.

Not sure about this migration thing but, they are about as common as sparrows.

We saw a 9’ hammerhead on the surface while out there. He was smack in the middle of a bunch of rays. Figured he was feeding.
