Hey Larry

Here ya go! That’s why I had to add the pulpit! The camber and the rub rail were to far to allow shaft clearance!

If I had a lot of money I would have had one like this fabricated!

Looks good.

Has the new tm seen action yet? Youre killin Peapod

“I am not involved in this thread, only helping Fred understand who he is dealing with.”

Pod, gona try it out today!

That looks great, Easy. Nothing wrong with that.

If your weather looks like ours, you’re going to get a wet azz today.

How did you mount the plate to the boat? How did you drill and what types of bolts were used and how is it attached underneath?

I ask as I am looking at getting a Trolling Motor. I am very hesitant about drilling holes in a boat! The alternative is spending an additional $1000 to have a shop install it. This would be a first time evolution and I don’t know what I don’t know on this one.

First off you have to know what the footprint of the TM motor your getting is. I got a Minn Kota I-Pilot with the Quick release mount! The Quick Release Mount is the Plastic Puck in the aluminum pulpit in the 2nd picture! I Though it was going to be an easy install until I placed it on the bow for a trial fit. As you can see from the 2nd picture the Quick Release mount only has 4 bolts holding it down. Also in the 1st and 2nd picture you can see the deck cap of both boats have a camber that extends out a good 2 inches and add in the rub rail close to 3 inches. The 2 front bolt holes hung over thin air, if you were to obtain shaft clearance past the bow! Hence’ the need for the pulpits!
You can through bolt on the back bolts! The front 2 you need something to bolt to. I had NO access to underneath the deck in the mounting location on the bow. What I did was buy some Toggle Bolt Anchors and some PVC board at Lowes. I’ll add the link for those products at the end! If you have to add the pulpit you will need 2 people when you measure for it! You can’t hold the motor in the deployed position and mark it at the same time. Mark the outline of the base side and back while the 2nd person holds the motor for the proper shaft clearance! Then, see where your base mounting holes are in relation to the deck! My front 2 were hanging over thin air! You will probably need 2 longer bolts than came with the TM base. My TM came with 3 inch bolts and I had the get 3 1/2 inch! That’s because the 2 bolts that went through the Mounting Puck and the Board and the Deck had the be longer, than the ones going through the Puck and Board! I can’t stress enough, MEASURE-MEASURE-MEASURE before drilling! Once you get the Base fitted for shaft clearance, MEASURE AGAIN! Then all you have to do is cut a piece of PVC board the size of the base add a few inches all the way around so you have room to bolt the board down and drill holes and put the Toggle Anchor in and bolt it down! Oh, forgot to mention that there should me a mou

Looks great! Now go out and catch some fish and report. You do know that only “report” posts are actually useful don’t you? All the rest are merely superfluous.

Well done, sir!

we install trolling motors regularly, and the average install for just a trolling motor is $250-$350 depending on if the boat is pre-wired or needs a mounting plate like the one in the pic

chris V, I wish I had known what you charged, before I did it myself! I also installed a group 31 battery and an NOCO genius Gen 2 bank onboard charger in the CC. Man, I don’t bend like I used to. What a PITA’ crawling into that little CC opening! chris V, call me next time, before I want to do something like this, on my own again:smiley:

Easy and Chris V,

First, Easy; thank you for the explanation. While I am pretty mechanical, what I surmise is this would be out of may range of expertise. Being a first time evolution, I see nothing but problems. It makes me think of Crystal River Nuclear plant. They tried to save money on a major job and are no longer in business.
Chris V,
I will pm you with my information. If you are on the spot with this, I may trailer my boat to you. I will send you my information.
Thank you all for your candor and assistance.
