Finally got settled into my job… been fishin a few times and have been tearin 'em up OTF!! As soon as I can get some pix uploaded I’ll post them up… Hope ya’ll are slayin them back home!! feel free to e-mail me pix
So far a copper wolly bugger, copper chenile and some copper tinsel for the tail… reel basic but they LOVE it about a size 12… gonna tie up a few bigger ones and see what that shakes outa the grass nabbed a monster this morning… great fish but a crappy fight… they kinda give up after one run and half azz fight til ya get ahold of 'em… gonna try out some of the other lakes tomorrow…
man I tore them UP this mornin… Talkin about sight fishin… I could see them laying on the grass… one cast and dropped the fly in front of them… twitch twitch… BAM! Fish On!!! All of them were 18" or bigger… My final count fo rthe AM session was 15 fish, 12 of them were biggunbs, a small barb( kinda like a carp) and 2 small bass… they kinda got wise to the small copper dart I was using so I switched it up with a big olive bugger and did it all over again! Some Iraqi soldiers came by when I nabbed the biggest one and they wanted it so they will be having fish for lunch Personally I wouldn’t eat a fish out of these waters to save my life but they drink the same water so I figured they could have at it… My cameras got buried with the rest of our gear and I was solo on this trip so I don’t have pix but it was a great mornin… BTW… does anyone have a good pattern for carp??? I had about 8 bruisers this mornin that didn’t like what I have… I reely want one of those on line
PM session yielded 2 smaller ones and a MONSTER that spit the hook… Awesome time though…
used to use a glow ball type fly that looked like a dough ball or a piece of corn. might also try a brown san juan worm.
glad to see things going well in iraq. appreciate your service!!
Awesome report. Glad to see you are getting to do some fishing there. It’s amazing how much those “bass” look like snook.
As far as flies for carp, I have always used wolly buggers, crawfish imitations, and san juan worms. Wolly buggers are always a good general fly when you are searching new waters, but you have already discovered that.

HOW 'BOUT THEM DAWGS!!!
A gun owner voting for Obama is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.
fishinfool nailed it Yoda, glo bugs and san juans work awesome, as do simple nymphs (hares ears). 15!!! chit man, you do better in the sand huh, JK. if your ever in need of a care package (ie flies… Im more than certain I can get some o these boys on here to tie a mess, actually Im gonna do it, how long are you there and is there an address to send you some leaders, flies etc…>
If you do any relocating and find yourself in TQ, be sure to bring your flyrod. Lake Habbaniya is just south of there and is absolutely beautiful. I longed for a fishing rod when I came across it on my last trip over there in the Marine Corps.

Trust me, while your pinned down taking enemy fire and you call in for air support and you hear a jets afterburner crackin the air overhead would be the most liberating sound you could ever ask for. I haven’t experienced that first hand in actual combat, but I have trained in a similar scenario where it still makes the hair stand up on your body.
Inshore I already made contact with 'em I landed a monster tody abour 24 inches long and pushin 4lbs… finally got a good fight! Gonna try a couple different lakes real soon… I’ll ost up some more pix soon…
