Left Folly Landing yesterday morning hoping for 2 feet and a cooler full of fish. We came out to the breakers and saw a storm off were we were saposed to be heading. So we stayed in a chanel and fished some.
Dropped a couple finger mullet off and caught a Bonnet Head Shark and a couple whiting. The storm wasnt moving after a while so we were gonna take a chance. While going out to our spot there was lightning and thunder so we turned back around. We were gonna call it a day and go back home but we hit a sandbar.
We go in that river all of the time but it was closer than we expected. Called Sea Tow and they said an hour before they would come. So we waited and waited and finally they called back, but it wasnt news we wanted to hear. 5 more hours till they would come and pull us off.
We waited till hightide and shook ourselves out of there. There were still a couple papers to sign with Sea Tow though. After that it was 4 o’clock so we decided to go and fish till night since the storm passed.
We came out to our spot with an easy ride and bottom bumped. Ended up with Black Sea Bass, Porgy, Snappers, Lizard fish, Rock Sea Bass, Plenty Of Sharks and other little fish.
Hope to be back out there soon for a longer day of fishing.
We seen you guys on the right side of the inlet when we were headed out!!! That sucks we rubbed the bottom a little to, that inlet is always different it seems!!! It ended up laying down nice later that day!!! Good luck next time!!!
Yea the wave height was a good two feet in the morning and we would have gone out if it wasnt for that storm. But im glad it layed down to 1 to 2 feet for the second ride out.
Folly river and Stono inlet are getting way silted in. I can only make it out of the river on about a 3ft tide now. If you follow the markers at lo water one will run aground, have to just ignore a few of them totally. I spent hours out there earlier this summer in my Whaler finding the deepest channel to run thru with big boat. It’s the worst I’ve seen it in 10 years.
Yea its terrible there have been alot of surveyers out there lately!!! Maybe they are going to try to do something about it!!! Thats what we were doing yesterday trying to get a track to follow!!! It would be great if they would fix that inlet!!! Logan it did lay down to nothing yesterday we ran in at 40 knots great ride in!!!
Should have dropped the anchor for the pic. Been there, done that, glad you’re safe. Judging by the marks on that bar, you’re not the first to use the rotary sonar on it.
the best thing you can do in a situation like that is ride it out, relax, and wait for the tide. There is no risk of damage to person or property then. Start hooking up lines to drag something that wasn’t meant to go overland and bad things can happen. Not only that, but I think hard grounding comes under a different set of rules for maritime salvage law.
One thing to remember about waiting for a tow is…you never know who called in after you that was taking on water with a dead engine. You were safe albeit in a bind, but folks who are sinking etc. take priority.
once the on call capt got to the entrance to the folly river, there was not enough water to get in…he even called me to see if there was another way in or to see if the markers had shifted…its a 45-50 minute run from our dock to the folly and unfortunatley the only shortcut to be taken can only be run of half to high tide…the onlty other choice was to come back later when there was enough water to get in the folly…i ran it a week ago and found 4 markers off station and two missing…and the river has shoaled up worse than i have ever seen it…sorry for the wait…
