High Cotton 5/1

I don’t normally post reports for the High Cotton as our captain is not a huge fan of internet message boards. This one however needed to be told.

Not long after the first line in at around 7:30 we had a Wahoo sky-rocket out of the water on a long rigger and cut clean through the leader. Oh well. About an hour later the next fish hit, and again it was a wahoo. The angler, who did a great job of getting the fish to the boat on a TLD 25, was pretty pissed when I missed him with an impatient gaff shot…Dayum, 0 for 2.

The next few hours provided some action with 8 full grown dolphin. My group who had had about enough of the washing machine that was Friday’s ocean, told me that if the captain was ready to head in, so were they. Just about the time we were gonna call it quits, one of the TLD’s starts screaming hard. Blue Marlin tailwalking like you see on one of those corny fishing shows on ESPN. Long story short, we got her in after some excellent angling and boat driving. She hit a cheap ass Williason lure that came out of the bargain fiesta at Boaters World, and was caught on 30 lb. string. Good thing she stayed up top. The fish was released in great shape and swam away strong. We estimated her to be 200-225 lbs. I’ll try to figure out how to post pics and get em up later.

congrats on the marlin.
