I am new to charleston and have been reading this forum for 4 months.
I went out in the yak today (Wando) to check out a flat that I thought would be productive. I have never had success flats fishing before. Partly because of skill and partly experience.
I was not disapointed. I saw a total of 4 tails. I caught the 3rd one on a berkly grub. The red happened to be 10 feet from me so I didn’t have a hard time landing it infront of her. I saw a shake from the fish and then nothing. I started to edge the grub back thinking I missed the fish. There was some pressure as though it was stuck on grass. I tugged it hard and that is when the fish knew it was hooked. Then I remembered the 1st rule of flats fishing…Close your legs! It put up a good fight. I ended up cathing her. She was 26 inches. I saw in her mouth a crustation that crawls up the grass. I had thought previously they were there only for the crabs…but I guess not.
Since this was your first successful flats experience Ep - rules state that you must disclose the exact coordinates of any productive flat for your fellow flats fishermen to confirm that those were reds and that they are hungary…I mean it’s only fair since you didn’t provide the pics - did you rig that gulp weedless??? Great job on the hook-up - the real fishin time is going to be verrryy soon…

Touche ep…touche…seldom will you see me ask where and often you will see me ask how but when I start asking you to take me with ya…then…and only then will you see my very small mind…
I just thought you were goin for the hook…“above 526”…I was thinkin maybe Wando, Clouter, Ashley and Cooper river(s) fit that first piece of the puzzle - Welcome and sounds like you sir have had a great start on the flats…

hey dog,i got me a master plan on gettin around the gunboat out there at gc.im gonna sneak my boat down at the bridge and paddle down
from that end.gonna be the first fishin trip in the yak.then i can get to the spots without him knowin im there:stuck_out_tongue:
I have never been stopped by the gun boats in the yak…not to say it can’t happen but not yet - you can put in at Filbin and paddle there - not really too far - maybe 15-20 minutes+/- - tell me when you’re ready…

put in at the landing at 526 and virginia ave.its not too bad.its like a small park.wadefished for years out there.also fished the trestle and all along the creek in canoe.nice place to fish.its close for me cause i live in north area.right at the mouth of the creek you can catch inshore slam at times.i have.and i know jerms has also.some others fish there on here from time to time.like dog says goose creek is about a 15 or 20 minute paddle.then you have noisette creek, home of the big “gangsta spottails”.suckers took 2 rods from me this year.one took rod and rod holder all in one shot.
that area of the river is underrated in my opinion.hope this helps.
