We went out last Friday in the Harbor when low tide was at 9:30 ish and did well. This Friday high tide is at 9:30 ish. Is it worth going out to try at high tide? I really don’t want to waste the time gas and bait binder if high tide isn’t productive. I’ve gotten mixed ■■■■■■■■ from people I have asked. Thanks for any input.
I am there with you on the tides… we are in a Waning Gibbous Full moon therefore the tides are total of 5.9 feet of water (Five Fathom Creek-Ocean). Normally it is 3-4 feet of water…So then you have to setup and look at your depth finder at flippin 8-9 feet at high tide to end up at 8ft-6ft is 2ft at low! So you are throwing in really deep water to start and could bog down at low.
I found a great online fish chart that tells you when the fish are active…I trout fish and the dang thing has been right every time! It said the active time for fish on Saturday was between 2:00-4:00. If we catch shrimp during this time, I will finally find the Jeanie in the bottle answer I have been looking for. Do moons and tide effect shrimp migration and can we work around that to increase our catch?

As long as you’re careful with depths like CG suggests you should be ok. It’s just a lot more rope to pull on the high side of the tide. I have generally had success on both tide cycles, although rising is definitely preferable. But as long as you have moving water you should have a chance at them.

Don’t share Creekgirl cause everyone will be fishing your spots at the same time. Make them find the prime times on their own! (joking based on previous post!). lol
she is refering to the “solunar table” which shows high and low tides as minor and major activity times. It also calls full moon and new moon the “best” times. There is one on http://old.charlestonfishing.com/lunar_tide.asp
I’ll share. This is probably the site she is referring to. It is excellent and I’ve found their solunar tables to be very accurate, sometimes:smiley: Just put in your location and fishing date.

The above is correct…love that little cartoon site…My neck is still in bandages from a earlier post. It shouldn’t effect throwing this weekend though! I won’t sleep a wink…this is better than Christmas! Finally shrimping season is open.

We went out in the last night and it was worth the trip out. We ended up with a little over a half cooler. Shrimp were a mix of all sizes. With high tide being at 9:34 we were set up by 7 in about 4 foot of water and started casting at around 7:30. At around 8:30 we started pulling in nice nets. Thanks for all the input. No need to worry about high tide shrimping.
