I’m looking at upsizing, and after making some measurements I’m not sure that I can.
My current rig rolling down the road is about 11 feet tall, and my candidate is around 13 feet.
I tow down hwy 162, toogoodoo road, and hwy 174 to reach my destination. It always looks tight, and when its been raining my top does get brushed sometimes. How high is the road clearance supposed to be around here? I’m not sure how many semi trucks go through there.
Bad idea?
Im going to post in the down south forums too, but it seems this section gets more traffic.
State and County DOT have that info. Take with a grain of salt if close. Sometimes they repave the road and it takes a while to update their files.
Should always be a minimum of 13 foot 6 inches, that is the standard for a truck. Anything below that should be marked. Now for trees, that is a different story on a side road. I’ve seen several trucks opened like a tin can on Bohicket Road. The trees on the side may not clear, I would just be careful and swing into the center of the road when it is safe. If you hit and branches call either the SCDOT or Charleston County Public Works to let them know. SCDOT roads have the reflectors in the center, county roads don’t. In your area the municipalities (MeggetT, Ravenel, Hollywood) use the County’s Public Works for maintenance.
The three roads you named get a lot of truck traffic, those should be good. Those are all State Owned roads.
