Hilton Head Island

So I moved out of SC for work, but it looks like my family are going to be headed back for a week or so this the first week of July. For the first couple of days, we will be at Pawley’s Island, which we have fished extremely successfully for years. The other half of the week we will be going to Hilton Head Island, Which we have never actually been to.

Any recommendations on where to check out while we are at Hilton Head? I may or may not bring some kayaks down, haven’t made that decision yet. Definitely bringing our gigging supplies, so any info on where you can park at night without being hassled would also be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Go to the CC Haig ramp and paddle toward Pinckney Island. Both sides of Mackay Creek have vast marshy areas and oyster beds that hold all the redfish and trout you could want. I’m from out of state and came to HH with my wife last October on vacation. I managed my personal best redfish along with a few more and lots of trout, though most of the trout were short. I’m actually headed back again in a few days for 5 days of sunrise to sunset fishing if the weather cooperates. I’m hoping to take a lot of fresh fish home after this and I’ll be posting a report. Check back for it. I only kayak fish by the way, so I can attest that there are good spots within a reasonable paddle. Fighting the current and wind on outgoing tide can be a tough paddle, eat a big breakfast!
