Ho Ho NO where did the fish GO!

LOL!
Funny how a day or two can change things! Fished same spot, same tide, same bait, same wind - different result!

Since it went so well X-mas Eve figured take my son and our neighbor out to wear out some redfish. OOPS! I plucked off a rat pretty early, and then it was spotty. Iā€™d usually catch one about the time the kids got bored and decided to take a break.

That was the routine - no fish - kids get bored - Vin catches fish - no fish - kids get bored, etc.

I wound up with 5, including 2 nice 27 inchers. I did notice the water wasnā€™t moving as swiftly until later in the tide, and thats when the bite was the best. Slow water was the first thing I noticed when the bite didnā€™t turn on, so my guess is for that spot they want current.

No kid pics. :imp:No kid patience!:imp: LOL! Told them they gotta cast to catch 'em!

Still a good day on the water! Just curious as to how you chose that spot? Still trying to figure what to look out for when scouting new areas. Thanks for any help as usual.

Honestly, seawest, that spot was an early Xmas gift from a fellow club member. He found it steady working docks until he happened upon one that held the fish. Another member found one the same way, just steady working docks until he found one that held fish.

It has current and deeper water nearby, which maybe helps. Water pushes against it on certain tides which helps push whatever bait that is left towards the fish. I did see bait flicking today and a busy pelican gobbling what he could find.

If you have a trolling motor (I donā€™t, which is a pain) Iā€™d try that as a base. Not all docks are created equal. Its funny, in my case anyway, when you find a spot and THEN the lightbulb goes off like ā€œno wonder the fish are there!ā€.

A million other variables, which is what makes the game fun! Hope that helps a little anyway.

Hey, not everyday can me Ho Ho Ho, 30 or Mo. At least you were out there.

Thanks as always vinman! I didnā€™t realize you were fishing a dock. Just thought you found a patch of grassline and was wondering what you saw to make you try that spot. I spend most of my wintertime fishing spots like copahee, greys, etcā€¦ However that makes for a long day and I need to start focusing on the Wando so I can start taking more trips. I will use my trolling motor and start hitting docks and other structure to see if I can find them. Take care

How do you hook the mud minnows? Do you hook them through the mouth like a mullet? Going to give this a try this week!

Just under the lip a little ways and up through the head, trying to catch a little bone. If you hook them too loose youā€™ll keep losing them. Work the SLOW or just leave them sit or drift in the current. Theyā€™ll be down there, flailing away on that hook, so you donā€™t need to put any acton to them. Good luck!
