Hobcaw Creek - Mixed Bag

Fished Hobcaw creek yesterday to stay out of the wind. I live on the creek but actually rarely fish it for no real good reason other than its too busy in the summer. Fished the upper stage of the falling tide in the afternoon for a couple of hours around docks, points, and feeder creeks with my son and one of his buddies. All of the spots were between the mouths of the creek and the dock/ramp for the I’On neighborhood. Only managed 4 fish, 1 slot red, two trout, and one flounder, but it was nice to be on the water in the middle of the week. All the fish were caught on live shrimp on jig heads.

Sounds like a good day, congrats

Local Boy, Just having fun.

Boy if I lived there I would fish it all the time! I travel miles by boat to fish that creek LOL

i wouldn’t go near there. it’s too close to the wando terminal and it’s full of pollution, radioactive ballast discharge, hazardous medical waste, and stevedore discharge. it’s horrible. and there are no fish there.

Nice little slam!

Looks shallow in the mouth can anyone adv, thought about trolling up in there one day, just was unsure

Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

Go slow, watch your depth gauge, you’ll be fine. Or follow someone in and watch their prop!

There are sort of two entrances to Hobcaw creek. One at the south end of the Wando Terminal and one by the Hobcaw Yacht Club. Both entrances are passable at all tides for almost any boat. The entrance by the Wando Terminal is wider. There is a bar that extends from the terminal side to about halfway across that can be a problem at lower tides. You need to follow the channel that runs about 50-100 feet off the opposite shoreline (there are several large oyster rakes on that side but it is deeper). You can use the red buoy just off the mouth of the creek as one reference and the the big flag pole in front of the first house you see to line yourself up if you have a deep draft boat. The entrance at the hobcaw yacht club entrance is tougher as there is a very shallow oyster bar that is a problem at almost any tide. The oyster bar sort of runs parallel with the end of the boat ramps and goes right to the island in between the two mouths. You just have to idle in right off the docks for the yacht club to make it past the bar. There is really no need to enter this way unless you plan on fishing that part of creek. It is a long no wake area that takes you to the same place as the other mouth.
