Hobie Outback too big for Copahee?

Hi everyone. I’m Jeremy, first post, new to the site and just moved near Park West. My favorite kayak is a 12 ft Hobie Outback, however after watching YouTube videos of yaks in Copahee sound and the creeks; I worry the mirage drive and rudder are just too much for it and I’d risk breaking stuff.

Should I consider getting a beater yak for Copahee and keep the Outback for deeper inshore and nearshore?

I’ve had my Outback out at Copahee on many occasions, and yes I’ve suffered some oyster rash but if you take it carefully out there you can use your drive. Stick to deeper spots until you get a little more familiar with the channels and deeper pockets of the sound.

Thanks for the reassurance. I’ll stick with the Outback.

No problem with the outback out there. Problem is, all the fish have left and moved on! I believe they all went to the backside of Sullivan’s Island…

Plenty of short reds still out there. Makes sense that the bigger fish are behind Sullivan’s after last weeks winds.

Hey Jeremy - have you been out to copahee yet? I’m looking for places around IOP and it looks promising? where to launch from - gadsdenville ramp?
