Hobie PA14 Vs Slayer Propel

I hope this wasn’t done to much I couldn’t find it in the archives. I’m new to this site but here it goes. I currently fish with a Wilderness Ride 115 with the upgraded air seat I love my girl but I’ve had 2 sports related neck surgeries that sometimes impedes my paddling so I will be checking out both kayaks at Time Out today. I love the idea of being able to go fwd & back with the propel but I fish in the flats quite a bit so I’m concerned about the propeller. Can anyone shed some light on this for me I usually fish in Murrells Inlet & the Pawleys Island area although I come to Charleston also. Thanks

I have a Hobie outback and I absolutely love it. It rides effortlessly through the water, is very stable, makes little noise, and is easy to stear . I mainly fish the flats and other VERY shallow areas too. I load my Hobie down with a yeti cooler full of ice and drinks, my tackle box (which is quite hefty), and a castnet and it still has no problem floating through 4" of water. To maximize stealth I will usually pull the rudder up and push the mirage system flat to the kayak and push along with the paddle or shallow anchor which comes with the kayak. You will also have no problem standing up on a Hobie if you are looking for more leverage. I will even strap my yeti to the seat and stand on that like a casting platform ( I am still very young though). I do not have any experience with the Slayer Propel though, so you may find that you like it better after testing both kayaks. I hope this helps a little and you are able to find the right kayak. Tight lines!

Thank you so much I’m leaving Surfside Beach now to head down to Mt Pleasant to the Time Out Sports store. I think testing out the yaks will go a long way to help make up my mind with the money it costs I want to take my time thanks for the info

Reverse is awesome on the Slayer Propel! It’s fantastic when fishing structure in a current and you don’t have to drop an anchor. It’s also easier to handle by yourself than a PA.

I own a slayer propel 13 and love everything about the boat. Very stable and to my opinion has more room for gear. I fish tidle creeks and rivers and having the reverse is a must in my opinion. Plan on spending some money either way you go. The best thing I have purchased for the kayak was a depth/GPS finder. The new cell block is a must for setting up any depth finder. Good luck on the water.

I’d demo both. I got the pro angler 14 and couldnt be happier. It would be nice to reverse around structure but I fish shallow too often and the Mirage fins do great in almost no water. The PA also has a sail and long list of optional accessories. You really can’t go wrong with either. Go to Time Out Sports in Mt P and they will let you try out both.
