Hog City

Big Daddy, F’in Mike, George and myself went to some numbers in 90’-100’ to see what we could shoot… as Phin mentioned previously, the viz up top was great but really sucked below the thermocline.

George and Mike dropped first and absolutely raped the bottom… came up with three big hogs (22.5, 18 and 16 on the digital scale back at Marlin Quay,) a red grouper and a 7.5 lb. lobster. Unfortunately, they pretty much cleaned it out for BD and me… we didn’t see squat, and only brought up one small scamp. I did work a big lobster about 20 yards down a ledge before I got her out where BD could grab her, but she was covered in berries.

Next stop was covered in grouper, but most were small. I got a red and a scamp, and BD got another huge hog that we thought might beat George’s. (It didn’t… but did weigh in at 20.25.)

Last stop was really bad on the viz… very cool place with lots of life, but all the big fish stayed in the murk. We did have an 8’ hammerhead circle us on the ascent, which made me glad we hadn’t shot anything.

Pics to follow when they are developed… we didn’t have a digital camera with us, so we had to grab a disposable from the marina.

Another great day on the ocean…

I think you should institute some new rules aboard your bote.

Well done. Sounds like y’all have a lot of feral hogs up in those part this year.

Boated small grouper inshore…grayish green with black. Any idea what kind?

We do have that rule… unfortunately, we were on George’s boat yesterday! Looks like y’all had quite the day as well… nicely done.

You heading up to Tigertown for Labor Day? I’ll be there in the same spot… stop by if you’re there.
