Ion swamp up 17 is loaded with hogs, start there. Ive seen alot of hog sign up north near santee too. I was hopeing to get out a little this week as well, but, correct me if im wrong, believe only a 22 is aloud considering the closing of deer season. Best of luck

Thanks for the tip, it was my understanding there were no limitations on hogs other than no use of buckshot. I will call dnr and confirm first.
Waterhorn is good also.

Rim fire only during small game season.

22 or smaller rimfire or shotgun with #2 or smaller shot only. Archery: blunt points only. 40 cal or smaller muzzleloader only.
You can only hunt Hogs now with small game legal weapons on WMA.
AND on WMA…if you are Hog hunting during small game season with small game weapons, you must wear hunter orange while doing so. IF you are small game hunting but do not intend to shoot any Hog you may see…THEN you are not required to wear hunter orange.
This thread makes obvious why I asked a question last week
about hunting because the rules seemed overwhelming/confusing/contradictory
an example is two wma’s near me. One says shotguns only for small game and the other says rimfire no smaller than 22 and shotgun shot size no bigger than #2

Any WMA that has a restriction on what type of weapons are legal for small game, will have that restriction listed under that particular WMA’s name in the regs. On all other WMAs with no such weapon restriction listed, it is legal to use any of the above mentioned weapons for small game…and Hog hunting on those WMAs during small game seasons are restricted to only those weapons that are legal for small game.
Thank yall for clarifying… very helpful getting it in everyday terms…

Hog hunting covered in hunter orange using a .22 or a shotgun loaded with #2 or smaller doesnt exactly sound like a good idea to me… call me crazy. Rimfire only I guess you’d be best off with a .22 magnum and a very accurate shot behind the ear.

22mag, 17wsm or 17hmr will do the trick.

Have killed many Hogs with a 22 LR while Squirrel hunting, but a little more power never hurts.
I hunt them with a 17WSM, but also usually CC a backup pistol… you know, just in case.

.22 to the head will drop a razorback but youll definitely want to be close for that mission and if possible take a sidearm just in case you end up a few feet up a tree. if you have anywhere to go just across the border in georgia you can use archery and muzzleloader for hogs on non national forest WMAs during small game seasons down here…wish sc would do the same! .50 cal hollow point does the job pretty well.
