Sorry for the late report, but I was reminded of my resolution to keep up with these thing this year today. Met at the dock 7am on Sunday, loaded the gear, and after a few checks and crude jokes got underway for was we were hoping would be an epic day of fishing on the It’ll Do. Sea was gorgeous with a slow rolling 4’ swell just as predicted. Cruised south at a good clip and the big boat got after it with a few soft landings as the engines felt the need to bark a few times. Made a couple drops with 35’ vis in 74deg water, but fishing was slow all around. Still managed a solid day hitting some of the best and most lively spots I’ve witnessed around Charleston, just not holding the adults this time. Even without filling our limits we bagged 1 gag 16-17lbs, 3 hogs with a set of twins at 16lbs, and a handful of slippers along with a lone spiny. It’s that time of year most of the bugs are berried up ensure the bounty will continue.
Can’t think of too many ways to better spend a day than getting wet and spearing fish. Even got a hot bbq sandwich out of the deal. Unfortunately right as we were coming through the jetties, the port motor took a dump. Personally, I couldn’t figure which was greater?my empathy for the captain over the motor or my amazement that this vessel was “limping in” at 42mph!
Thank goodness for that extended warranty! All in, it was a great day for me as I with have knife to shoulder in a few hours which will keep me sidelined for the next couple months with physical therapy. I guess I’ll have to miss all the warm water and green algae and just wait for the better vis and less crowded landings this fall. Happy hun
