Do you keep/kill the lion fish? Just wondering because I know they’re a real problem on the reefs in the Caribe. Not sure if that’s the case up here.

Nice rod and reel hog, perfect eating size. Looks like its still a female.
Captain crunch hogfish is the best thing you will ever eat bar none! Finished rewiring my boat this past weekend and can’t wait to go shoot some.

Can’t take credit for the recipe. Someone in Florida came up with it.
Captain Crunch Hogfish
Egg White
Olive Oil
Cap’n Crunch Cereal
grated Parmesan cheese
Crush the cereal, mix in parmesan cheese.
Dip the hogfish in egg whites
“Batter” both sides of the fish with the crushed cereal
Pan fry in olive oil.

Congrats on your first hog! Just an FYI, it is a female and looks like she is transitioning into a male. I call those tranny’s. Hogfish are protogynous hermaphroditic where they are all born female and only a few transition to males. The one you have there looks like she is caught in the middle of the change. IMHO - The “tranny” types fight way harder than any of the others. Congrats again on your fish! Best eating fish out there IMHO!
