I’m looking to put some hogs down this weekend, anyone have any suggestions of where I might find some?

Isnt it funny how we keep hearing about this epidemic hog outbreak, but no one is ever offering any free hog hunts. It seems like someone would put together some deprivation huntsbut all I ever hear is go to the Francis Marion forest if I want hogs.
You hunt hogs out of deer season…

you need to hunt hogs whenever you can. they will run off all your deer because they eat the same things as deer. without dogs they are very hard to catch out in the open. they mostly feed at night and will eat all the corn on a pile then move on and not come back unless you keep feeding them and thats to expensive anymore. I trapped 27 last spring and they left after that kind of pressure was put on them. i used traps after they went through 10 bu of corn every night, after we left our stands and the deer quit comming around. If you don’t want the meat just gut shoot them and they may run off the property before they die!
If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.
That’s what I was thinking that too, I always hear about how the hogs are taking over and everybody wants them gone, but no one gives any advice. I guess that is spot preservation.

If you have never had one, they are a treat, some of the best eating you can get.
If you do not want them there are tons of people who do.

Hogs may be nuisances but it’s unethical to kill just cause… At least donate the animal to someone less fortunate…

I don’t want to kill just to kill, I want to fill my freezer. I am looking to put some food on the table. Where did that come from? Never once did I say I wanted to go on a killing spree leaving dead pigs in my wake.

Flying high, where are you killing all of these hogs? I would like to get in on some of this action.

that was on private land, don’t hunt there anymore. It got to be a pain, that property went from a great deer hunting spot to seeing only a handful during the year.

I don’t think any land owner in their right mind would open up his property to the public to kill hogs. Could you imagine the kind of people that would show up? All the wrong ones.
If you are serious about it start networking and show your worth as a safe and ethical hunter and have some patience. That or buy some land in a known hog area. As for Mr. Dedrickh11 coming down for the weekend asking to hunt evidently knowing no one with property, I would most certainly recommend the Francis Marion.
Hogs are here in massive numbers and are a nuisance, but the fact of the matter Land owners are not going to let just any slinging pecker on their property with a gun, especially during prime deer season.

Fred67, I am not asking people to let me hunt on their private land. I am just asking if anyone knows where to harvest some pigs. I don’t expect people to just open the their land to me. I am just trying to broaden the game I hunt.

My reply was mostly for Deerhunter.
Dedrickh11, lot’s of public land to hunt around here. Call DNR and I’ll bet they can lead you to a good area. Just remember we are fixing to be in prime deer season and the public woods are going to be full of people. If you want Hogs try a Month after Deer season, with all the hunters on public lands hogs will be mostly nocturnal and very spooked. Feral and wild hogs are very smart. If you ever see a sow with some little ones shoot her first and the little ones may stay around long enough to get a couple of them.
