I took the sit on top out the other day, when I got back from unloading it I noticed water started to drain out of a hole on the bottom. hole about the size of a pencil diameter. I had at least 5 gallons drain out the kayak at the house.
Question is -why didnt I sink? was out several hours and didnt even notice all the water that must have been in there.

Kayaks usually don’t sink, between foam, bulkheads, and the cockpit, there is enough positive flotation to keep it going. If it is a plastic boat, bring it by Time Out in Mt Pleasant, we can fix it up for you!

5 gallons you only lost about 40lbs of buoyancy. Most yaks have a few hundred lbs of buoyancy plus some reserve capacity.
Dave’s right, even totally full it won’t sink. It won’t keep you afloat, but it won’t sink.
