Long story short, I put a 1/4" hole in my lower unit in between the 2 connecting points of the bearing carrier. I has been filled JB Weld. IF, the JB fails, the exhaust can escape causing some cavitation. Are there any serious effects of this if Im far out there and run it back in, say 60 miles with this hole exposed?
In weld is plastic. It won’t handle the heat and fail. Run the motor on the water and see if the lower unit oil looks like a milkshake. It will need to be welded. Real weld
It isn’t on the oil side. Its a couple inches behind the prop in the empty cavity. If it does fail, the exhaust could escape causing some cavitation. Not sure if cavitation causes any harm or if it just reduces speed?
Not sure if it makes a difference or not, but the JB weld is the steel version.
if its not in the oil area, its not going to compromise the seal or function of the lower unit.
if it cavitates, its gonna just cause you to burn more fuel.
JB weld is normally aluminum “paste” mixed with epoxy.
it is strong, but not like being welded.
I would suggest taking the boat over to Mike at skips propeller and letting him weld it.
