Fished the ledge today. Had the livewell blacked out with pogies by 6:45am and found acres of sardines but they didn’t like the sabiki’s we had so we fiddled with them for an hour and half to fill the second livewell. Ended up with 8 African Pompano, a very near or possible state record 32” Yellowtail snapper (BOGA said 9-10# so we didn’t go to certified scale), 4 mutton, 1 Mahi, 1 King, 1 Skipjack, tons of triggers, few beeliners and a bunch of AJ’s. Was a great day. No grouper unfortunately. Didn’t have the most experienced crew and we had a lot of rock ups and they wouldn’t come back out. Current was absolutely ripping. 12oz wouldn’t stay on bottom more than 5 seconds. Didn’t help trying to catch grouper.
Wow, that’s solid. We bagged 5 APs back in late April. Really great eating! Wife prefers it to mahi. Haven’t seen yellowtail snapper or mutton up here before. Solid work!

First yellow tail for us but the spot produces Mutton each trip it seems. We fished a while before the first mutton came up. Then they were back to back with the yellow tail at the same time too.

Awesome on those APs, we hit on some last year with DGYF34. We reeled in some big ones. We were 90% certain that is what they were and confirmed later but man they are some excellent eating fish. Glad to hear they are back out there.

How did you catch the YT Snapper? Free lining bait behind the boat, or on the bottom?
Same basic question on the African pompano. Basic depth, bait and on bottom or suspended. Just the basics unless you want to share more. Would think it cool to actually catch one.
