Homemade 1/4" Plexi Curtians

Since SeaBlocker went out of business, decided to make these plexi curtains myself.
Installed with the help of a friend-this is a two man job!
Made from 1/4" for strength-cost $160-materials-no labor.

That looks sexy! I like it!
Nice “phone booth”.

You’ve got some skill. It’s look very professional.

Looks good! How hard is it to take the front off for hot days?

Just walked by the boat and it looks great. It looks like it folds down in the front. Kind of like the windows on a golf cart. Anyway, good work.

Yes, the front top half folds down-plenty of air.
Made a test run yesterday, works fine, no shakes or rattles and the visibility is great.
Another nice thing about this type of installation is that the use of stainless steel “stand-offs” prevents the need to drill holes in your T-top. No need to use those snaps and screws which always corrode over time.
I cannot take all credit-the sides were cut by a pro from a template I made;however, the job was not exactly right; and I had to make a few cut corrections myself.

Thanks for your comments!

I am so glad you did this, I’ve been thinking about doing something exactly like that to replace my beat up curtains in front that are difficult to see through. I wonder why more people don’t do this?

Excellent job; it looks great!

…because everything is a conspiracy!!!

23-That front windshield has been on the boat for three years. I have towed the boat at 55-60mph-no problem.
The top part did come “unattached” once from its folded position in very rough seas; but that was easily solved with some adhesive sealer.
I,too, wonder why more folks don’t use plexi.
Haven’t had yellowing in the front; plexi won’t rip etc.

I think alot of people are intimidated with plexi. but is pretty easy to work with with the right equipment. its not as fragile as you think. I use a CNC router to cut alot of plexi down at my shop. How did you have those cut? They look good.

The sides were cut by Glass, etc on Bowman Rd in MtP from templates I provided.
As my templates were not entirely accurate, I had to make some correcting cuts using a hacksaw and coping saw-both worked fine.
Smoothed the cuts with a metal file and sandpaper.
The front windshield was cut from my measurements for SeaBlocker by a company in Chicago.
Think anybody with decent carpentry skills could cut a golf cart windshield to fit.
Just Google conduit standoffs-lots of companies make them.

Nice job on it for sure, looks great. Great idea on those standoffs.
Made one similar before but out of 1/8" lexan, both cut pretty good with a small trim router using a guide or template, just have to be careful with either drilling holes in it, can crack a bit if not careful.

I installed a folding golfcart windshield 2 seasons ago also. I attached to T-Top using velcro straps that were bolted to the windshield. All grommetts, velcro, bolts came from Lowes. Had 1 velcro break last summer, but that was due to installation error. Polish the windshield with Plexus and you can’t even see the thing!

only issue with acrylic sheathing is some will turn cloudy after being exposed to the sun. had to “brick proof” some windows years ago and after a few months couldn’t see through them at all. just be aware when choosing the material.

Plexi-glass is pretty cheap and works well but if you can afford it use Lexan. Lexan will not shatter or crack out. I used it when I had to replace my windshield. No adverse effects yet. I don’t know if either Plexi or Lexan will yellow from the sun. ???
