homemade load assists for SUV?

I can load my 46lber ok, and I think another 20lbs I’d be struggling. I’d like to get the Ride115, but its got that 30 extra lbs push it to almost 80lbs. Its going to be harder to get the nose up the top of the SUV and then push it up from the rear. I have the factory stock crossbars so I hate to take those off to upgrade. Kinda stumped here, I do a lot of solo trips after work and don’t have assistance.

any suggestions? ATV loading ramp?

Oh- and trying not to get a trailer! thanks for any suggestions.

I use the Thule Water Slide to load my Ride 135, it works great going on top of an Isuzu Rodeo.

What kind of vehicle and rack set up are you using? Factory Racks or Thule/Yakima racks?

I have a Yakima rack on top of a Mountaineer. I load a WS Tarpon 140 which weighs about 80 lbs on top. At first, I built a step platform to stand on and to set the yak on. It works well, but it took up a lot of room in the back of the SUV. I bought 2 folding platform stands to use instead and I actually just use one to stand on with the yak and then load it.
With the yak weighing 80#, the only load assist that really works is the Thule brand. However, in researching it, you still have to get their cross bars and it ends up running over $1000. Way too much. I have stayed with the system I have for over 3 years now. It works.

I have my wife load them on top of my Tahoe.

I just thought of something. Loading the kayak from the grill of the vehicle, with that Thule mat or maybe a shower rug, thanks Dave I had no idea they made those. I’m not worried about the scratches, but it might help the nose stay put.

I carry my Pro Angler on top of my Tahoe sometimes, especially when going to a small launch where parking might be tight. Stock rack, with some surfboard-type pads for cushioning. I load/unload by myself - I just pick up the nose and set it up in the valley above the rear glass, where the 3rd-brake light is at, then go to the back and pick it up and slide it on. If you are worried about scratches you could throw a towel or bathroom mat up there draped over the back glass and rear roof panel…

Malone makes a Sea Wing combo roof top rack

It has a sliding Vee that extends out to the tailgate ? you lift the nose of the kayak up into it and slid it on

Not sure if there is anything else like this or not? Our 14ft Stealth Kayaks weight 62 pounds and our customers seem to like it
