Honda 130 trim problem and slow trim tabs

I have a 130 Honda and when I trim it all the way up it takes a few tries before it trims back down. When it does come back down it comes down a lot faster than before. Do I need more fluid or is something wrong with the unit?

My trim tabs are 8 years old, and I have never added fluid to pump. The tabs move up and down, just a lot slower than they use to. I guess I need more fluid.

Thanks for any responses

Froggyo;

Are they Bennett Trim Tabs?

It is likely not low fluid that is causing the Trim Tabs to move slowly. Check the fluid in the reservoir with both Trim Tabs fully up, it should be about an inch from the top.

If there is enough fluid in the system now to put both Trim Tabs fully down it will have no impact on the speed they move. It could be that there is corrosion on some of the electrical connections that is limiting voltage to the pump. I would carefully inspect all the connections at the pump and at the switch. Pay particular attention to both ends of the black ground wire at the pump, since it is usually mounted low in the boat and can corrode more than the other connections.

Let me know what you find and if they are Bennetts I will be delighted to help.
