Honda 225 questions?

I’ve got an 03’ 225 Honda and was wondering if there are any mechanics in the area? I used to rely on The Outboard Shop and a few of their mechanics are still around, but I’m open to any recommended persons. Recently, I’m alarming @ 6400 RPMs at about 1/3 trimmed up. The boat is automatically throttled down. The water pump, themostat, and some other stuff has been changed, but I’m still getting the alarm. I normally don’t run that hard, but have had to from time to time, normally 5200 RPMS. Any ideas or suggested persons to contact would be greatly appreciated.

I am certainly not a mechanic but you are probably exceeding max RPM and activating over revolution caution system.

if you are able to turn that many RPMS, you have an issue with your prop.
6000RPMS should be max rpms with average load, and medium to full trim.
sounds like you are activating the rev limiter.
I am a certified outboard mechanic

1" prop pitch increase reduces 200RPM

400RPM over recommended = get a new prop with pitch 2" higher than current

you will now cruise at 4800 what you did at 5200 and not exceed 6000RPM…chris v or others could help get you the right prop

Slow to plane with higher pitch is the drawback

my guess is, he didnt use to have this issue, and its something new. probably damage to the prop, or something has been added or changed, causing the prop to ventilate

good point chris v…listen to the mechanic Got2Go…I am bad about just buying new the minute something isn’t right when it may be an easy or simple fix

Maybe he spun the hub

The prop is what we are almost certain on. I put it up on a sandbar awhile back while turning to help someone stranded. Barely got it stuck, but the tide was ripping out and getting dark, so I go a little impatient and used the motor for assistance as we pushed off. The prop did get a little “rough”. Any recommendations for prop cupping or repair? And, thanks for the input and help.
