I have an 1996 Honda 50 4 stroke on a small Scout. It has not been run in years but would be interested in getting an estimate on what it would take to get the boat running again. Any suggestions on mechanics that would work on a Honda? And, provide an estimate of what would need to be done? Any help will be appreciated.
I have a 1997 Honda that same size, you will need to rebuild the carburetors, with new jets and a new water pump.
The jets on these are very small. Even letting them sit for a couple of months without draining the carburetors will gum them up. They are so small it its difficult to clean them even with them taken apart.
There is a timing belt on the top that is easy to change. Otherwise some fresh oil and it should be good to go.

I have worked on several and owned a 75 for a while. The carbs need disassembled and gone through then synched. The pilot jets do have tiny holes but I have been extremely successful letting them soak in professional grade carb cleaner over night. They get plugged with varnish from the bad gas.
New fuel line with the primer bulb, filter, waterpump (should do the stainless if not already done) foot oil, engine oil + filter, inspect timing belt for cracks and dry rot (under plastic cover on top, very easy to see) plugs, pull t-stat and check (they get very crusty inside and I actually scooped while salty sludge out of the ports on mine when I first bought it) and if you do not know how many hours since the valves have been checked, its something to consider.
I bet at a dealer 1k+ for all of the above.

Thanks for the info, very helpful. I forgot to mention, it seems the trim/tilt is frozen as well. I did put a fresh battery in it, and hear the power going to it, but can’t lower the motor.
I don’t really want a big project, but I think I got one anyway.
