Honda outboard owners/tech please help!

I just bought a 2000 BF75 Honda outboard and I have a question about the water flush port. Is it supposed to have a plug in it during normal operation? I went to Charleston marine and got the brass nozzle for in it but when I asked the parts guy, he did not know.
None of the online microfiche show a plug in there. Water comes out during a run with the muffs on. Maybe something else is wrong? Thanks

I’m not 100 percent, but if the plug is not in a parts catalog it probably does not go there. Other manufacturers (BRP) in there 90 hp & below products are designed the same way. These smaller outboard water pumps deliver more volume than needed to efficiently cool. I would try to find a poppet valve for this motor if it does not have one the flush port is probably acting like one.

I have a BF50, its a little different design, but I am pretty sure on the 75 there is not a plug( the 50 does). My neighbor is a outboard mechanic(not a great one, lol) and said the flush port is for when you cannot crank the motor. The BF50 has 3 pickups to which the muffs only cover 2 and you have to tape over the 3rd that is on the underside. I burned up an impeller learning this lesson and always use a tub to flush the motor now.

there is a screw (plug) that should be in the hole
same screw as the oil drain

sorry Tommy wasnt able to answer that question for you, but yes, there is suppose to be a screw in there.

Thanks Chris, I was actually told to talk to you by a friend who said you were the man on these Hondas. After some digging I found that the relief valves were all crusted with the thermostat. The relief plug was not sealing on the flush valve letting water constantly drain out of the flush port when running.

The inside of the head looks painted and crust free. The water pump is new so hopefully with the new parts I will be ready to rock.
