Hoo Day 69

Picked Tues day to fish the hoo tourney.
We left the rocks out of GT at 0500 in the dark and headed out on nice seas with high expectations. We got out to the GT hole 0720 so quick we were sitting there waiting for lines in time 0800. Put lines and proceeded to look all over the ocean for sea temps over 69. GT. down to SW banks where we finally banged a small 25lb wahoo to get the skunk off and raise our spirits once again. Temp still 68 to aforementioned 69. couple hrs and headed back up to the hole for the tide change , when we got there some weeds were forming but temps u guessed it 69. Mostly we stayed around the 30fathom curve.
No bait no flyers nothing but nice slick ocean. Inside outside 69.
decided to move north and hauled up to the scarp. got there amongst a few boats and found 69. My temp gauge must be broke as it was 70 here two weeks ago. Moved in and out amongst weeds and even logs and plywood but temp was only 69 until three and made a group descision that our only hoo was’nt gonna make us any money so the run all the way up to little river to weigh it made no sense. Stayed to fish for some vittles and were rewarded with another small wahoo
around 4pm in 69 degree water. Headed home with throttles near flat and found the roughest seas of the day inside winya bay. Thanks to Tod, Jay and Bryant for a great crew and day on the water. I’ll do it any time again as long as you bring that old beat up Penn 114 w/ the super secret wahoo slayer rig as its the only thing that went down all day. I tried to give it a new home on my boat but felt guilty and let ya take it home
200 mi 69 degrees and 2 small hoos was the story.
Hey it was for charity at least thats what i told my wife

Rick, thanks for having me on board “Destiny”. I enjoyed meeting and fishing with you, Todd and Bryant. Great day to be on the ocean just couldn’t get the Wahoo to cooperate. No doubt Bryant’s Hoo Stick has the mojo, from the sounds of it that thing is magic. I guess you don’t need but one rod when he brings it with him. Thanks again for the trip and hope they raise a pile of money for the Kids!!
