whats the best size hook to use to catch whiting,croaker,etc:question:
i like using 2/0 circle hooks. they have good hook up potential on those smaller fish but also have what it takes to get the bigger guys too. sheephead, spottail, blackdrum, etc.

I’ve stepped way down to a size 6 j hook, my catch ratio has gone up. works best when whiting, croaker, even small sharks are on a light bite or lots of stolen bait. caught some nice whiting last year (14") on this small hook when the 1/0 circles where just getting bait stolen. also works to break up a dull weekend when all the fish in the surf are small like last weekend. caught 6 pinfish from the surf in about an hour… nothing else was biting.
