Hook sizes

Thanks in advance… I am going to try a trot line for the first time. What I can’t figure out is the correct hook size. I know that DNR requires a hook with gap width of 7/16" or smaller. What hook size does that translate to when I’m at the shop trying to buy them? Is it a 2/0 or another size? What would you recommend? Going to be on Lake Moultrie around Moncks Corner.

Thanks

The size differs from one manufacturer to the next. Take a tape measure and check before buying.

I use these from Memphis Net & Twine. EZ-Baiter - Stock # 39977-10/0

They were once called the Santee Cooper Special, they are a long shank circle hook of 7/16 gap. Better check the gap of every hook though in the box…since half of the last ones I ordered were 1/2 inch gap…
