Hooking up fuel gauge

I recently got my first center console and the gas gauge is not hooked up but it has a gauge and a sending unit on tank. The sending unit has 2 wires coming off of it. Is that all I need to hook the gauge up? How should I hook the wires to the gauge? Thanks in advance

2 wires on the sending unit, the one in the center is the wire to the gauge, the other goes to ground. The gauge itself is connected to the sending unit wire and to the +12V from the battery. It may also have a ground terminal. The connections on the gauge should be labeled.

Thanks. I will try to get it hooked up one day this week

I got it hooked up and it read just under full so I took the sending unit out and moved it by hand and it would completely peg out some times and then drop just to just under full but no lower depending on where I moved it. Does this mean the sending unit is bad?

Probable! They don’t cost that much. See if you can tell what make and model it is. It should be stamped on the unit somewhere. If you find it, go on line and do a search for it and you just may find the exact same unit for sale. If not you can get a universal, fits most everything unit! If you buy another unit make sure the bolt pattern is the same and if you can get a new gasket!

I didn’t see a make or model on it but saw some on the Internet that just went by hole diameter and tank depth. If I can find one that fits my dimensions it should work, correct?

upstate; is there a brand name on the tank? If there is, look up that company and you may be able to get the info or gage from them!

There is a sticker on there but I can’t remember what it said. I will go look tomorrow
