Full report:
Cleared the C bouy of Stono inlet at 5 am after some minor motor issues. Set the auto pilot and radar and sat back for a nice ride out to just a few miles past Edisto Banks, found the temp break where it was supposed to be with a weedline about 200yds away from the break so started trollin on the break and within 10 mins picked up the first dolphin about 15 lbs. Trolled in the same area and about a hour later, fish on! with a double hook up on dolphin with both fish ending up in the box! Crossed over the weed line and trolled out a bit deeper to about 600ft and BAM, down rigger rod starts screamin that wonderful tune that only a big wahoo can make it do! 20 minutes later a 58lb hoo is going in the box, had to curl his tail up to get him to fit! Another two singles make it on board when again the down rigger starts it wonderful tune and 10 minutes later a 45lb hoo is going in the box. Another dolphin makes it to the box at about 20+lbs.
Found lots of scattered weed and several very well defined weed lines with large patches but didn’t catch a single fish right on a weed line, yet found the temp break was usually about 2-300 yards inshore of the weed line and caught most the fish on the temp break.
Then finally it happened for first time for us on this boat, last dolphin of the day came up to boat and darted right in front of prop while running and proceded to wrap 6ft of wire and 20ft of mono around the prob hub tight as a drum! By now the wind and waves had kicked up a bit and was interesting to say the least thinking bout how I was gonna get the line and wire off prop, first I tried laying down on top of the motor tilted up and cutting line out, that didn’t work too well as my head was bout to explode in a minute from all the blood rushing to it due to the angle I was at, more or less dunking my head every big wave! Hmmmm, sat back and thought a minute and remembered
