Is there anything that will keep these off of you? Regular bug spray doesn’t seem to do the trick.
Hey Redfisher…Sometimes I think that Mother Nature likes to remind us of who is in charge. I maintained a 55 acre tract of property on the intracoastal several years ago. There was a lot of grass to cut. I would run the big Hyster riding mower as fast as it could go, and those horse fly’s, deer fly’s, green fly’s or whatever ran me down and bit the fool out of me. I had scabs up and down my arms and legs, and those critters would bite me right through my shirt and draw blood. Deep Woods Off was useless against them.
The only way to keep them off is to stay inside…otherwise…pay the price of admission to the great outdoors my friend. Kinda sucks doesn’t it?
Dang ok. I’ve been using that deep woods off too but like you said, it doesn’t even faze them. They have been drawing blood on the past several trips.
the best solution ive used is an electric fly swatter
If I’m posting, its because I’m sitting here at work, dreaming about fishing.

Deep woods off is what I use, but like you it does not seem to keep a hungry deer/horse fly off you.
One of our Horses is extremely allergic to horse flies and welps up crazy. The ferrier said to use Permethrin every other day. Seems to work and after looking it up seems to be safe for humans? I’ve not used it? Not sure if it would repel or not.
If you find something worthwhile pass it on.
“Why Bruce?”
We have a few horses out in walterboro too and use something for the horseflies but it says not for human use so I’m not spraying it on me haha
Dicks sporting goods has some spray that is like 98% DEET, might want to give it a try. I think the deep woods OFF is like 30-something%

permethrin is some good stuff to put on your clothes, not on your skin or hats. I have some that followed me home from Ft sill that works great. Directions said in bold letters not to put on skin. spray clothes, no headgear, and let air for thirty miniutes before use.
Something told me to stay home and clean my guns today.
My Dad always said “Son there is not a problem on this earth that can not be solved, with the right application of explosives” Thanks Dad. rest in peace

Dryer sheets work, or skin so soft. I’ve gotten into them so bad in mother norten before that I had to rub 2 stroke oil all over me. I got burn but I had to have some relief.

Skin So Soft - for real. It’s amazing people don’t get killed by that stuff.
Years ago we were at the 226 and the pilot house was full of the little Bast*** when a small bird flew in and started eating them , I think he got them all and then left headed to Edisto! Darndest thing I ever saw.
Try Cutter Backwoods! Use to use it in Alaska and Canada, for Black Flies. Those things bite hard!
Permethrin is the active ingredient in Nix Lice killer at like 10%. I have sprayed it for years in my yard for the state bird’s (keeps them away about a month 35% strength) and it only keeps Horse/Deer Flies away for a day maybe 2. The females are the ones that bite to get blood for protein two days prior to laying eggs.
